For generations, the Drexel Theatre has been central Ohio's first source for independent film and the best of Hollywood and international cinema, striving to specialize in simply the best films from around the world. Named among the “Ten Best Art Blessings” by The Columbus Dispatch, the Drexel is Columbus’ premier arts cinema, providing unique programming in an eclectic, neighborhood film-going experience.

Drexel special events—including Casablanca Night, Cinema Feasts, Sci-Fi Marathon, and Summer Kids Movie Fest—have further secured it as a staple of the community and a treat for film lovers.

In 2009, a group of committed community leaders and arts patrons formed Friends of the Drexel, Inc. This independent, not-for-profit organization was created to secure and sustain the future of the historic Drexel Theatre as a distinctive cultural asset to the greater Columbus community.

In 2011, Friends of the Drexel, Inc. purchased the assets of Drexel Theatre, Inc. and converted it from a for-profit enterprise into a non-profit organization. Friends of the Drexel also entered into an agreement with CAPA to manage the theatre on its behalf.

The Drexel has received tremendous community support during this time. It is a well-loved, cultural jewel, and with the new business model and the expertise of CAPA, it can be a sustainable provider of unique arts content and a vibrant community meeting place for many years to come.
